From NYMag:

Judge Hands Victory to Proposition 8 Opponents, Gay-Marriage Ban Overturned

Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples. Because California has no interest in discriminating against gay men and lesbians, and because Proposition 8 prevents California from fulfilling its constitutional obligation to provide marriages on an equal basis, the court concludes that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional.

  1. While some can look at this as an interesting abstract legal or political issue, I can't imagine how gut wrenching this is for partnered gay people, who are at the mercy of dueling court decisions on whether or not they are first or second class citizens in the legal status of their relationships. I hope equality before the law prevails eventually.

  2. And to think there are those who hijack the name of Christ and lament the protection of gay civil rights by the secular courts.

Worse even, the Church has been caught red handed financing the attempt to deny the civil rights of gays in the secular culture.

Anne Rice said it best recently. Because of this and other theological and moral travesties she announced that she is no longer nor ever will be a Christian again.

From now on she says she will be a follower of Christ.

  3. Meh. There are 18,000 LGBT couples in CA whose marriages are still intact even after Prop Hate was passed.

    *The world has not ended.
*I know of no busybody, fusspot, tattletale or scold who has gotten divorced because gay marriage ruined their lives.

Gay marriage is only an issue for people whose only sense of fun is to meddle in other people's lives. People don't like to be meddled with.

Don't let the BFTSs try to convince you this is only about marriage. They want absolutely no equality for LGBT people ever in any way. Witness, for example, the BFTS outcry over offering benefits to the partners of lay employees in the PCUSA. It isn't even close to marriage and they're foaming at the mouth over it.

It isn't about marriage, it's about hate.
