Baltimore Leads the Way

Now we are getting somewhere. Despite the hand-wringing of the Civil Union and Christian Marriage Committee that apparently cannot even decide what they can or cannot recommend, Baltimore Presbytery will give us action.
W–4.9001 Marriage is a gift God has given to all humankind for the well-being of the entire human family. Marriage is a civil contract covenant between a woman and a man two people and according to the laws of the state also constitutes a civil contract. For Christians marriage is a covenant through which a man and a woman two people are called to live out together before God their lives of discipleship. In a service of Christian marriage a lifelong commitment is made by a woman and a man to each other between two people, publicly witnessed and acknowledged by the community of faith.
Witherspoon reports that eleven sessions in Baltimore Presbytery have introduced a marriage overture. It will be voted upon at its November meeting and if passed will go to the General Assembly.

Hopefully, other progressive presbyteries will get in on this by presenting similar overtures or by concurring with Baltimore's. The more presbyteries that do this will allow for more overture advocates at GA.

Thanks to the good work by Rev. Don Stroud and That All May Freely Serve in Baltimore!
